Delos

Δήλος – Cyclades

The very small island of Delos is a must for everyone passing through the northern/central area of the Cyclades. At this place you can have several hours of relaxed strolling through and around an enormous excavation site. The whole island is literally covered. It has the famous lions, a big amphitheater, mosaics, a small museum, a small mountain for you to “climb”, and in general a lot of ruins… The only way to get there is by tour boat. The tickets may be a little on the expensive side, but it’s basically worth it, as you probably won’t see anything like this again. But do bring water, there is no shade. If your bottles run empty, there is a kiosk of some sort.

You cannot stay on Delos overnight. The only people that will be allowed this are archaeologists and the odd enthusiast. So don’t miss your boat back.

Selected walks: The entire island is one great archaeological walk…

• Good starting points: •  The harbour/entrance…

• How to get there: •  By tour boat from Mykonos, Naxos or Paros

• More info: Sorry, none yet
