Walking in Sardinia

Walking in Sardinia

This is a new effort from Cicerone, a walking guide to the superb island of Sardinia. I do not have the book, nor have I seen it, but Paddy Dillon is a well known and respected author of walking guides, so I expect it should be a useful book. Added to the Book Shop.

Gran Canaria Update

Landscapes of Gran CanariaI have recently acquired the 6th and latest edition of Noel Rochford’s Landscapes of Gran Canaria, published by Sunflower Books. This has triggered some small updates to the Gran Canaria page. Especially note that for my walk 4 (walk 19 in the book), the decent directly down into Los Palmitos has been fenced off and is now impassable. You can actually see this on Google  Street View where the lane coming from the north into the park’s parking lot is barred and bolted. I would not suggest climbing the fences as a good option.

Heritage

Opeth - Heritage

As I doubt there will any good news to report from Greece in any foreseeable future we might as well continue with some good music. “Heritage” is the new album from one of my favorite bands, Opeth. You know the word I am thinking of: Awesome.

Album of the year?

Mastodon - The Hunter

Mastodon has really impressed me with their new release. The intensity and sheer power of this album is like nothing else. Recommended!

Nostalgia II

Den Fortapte Verden

Talking about pioneers, this is a pioneer in Norwegian Science Fiction, nothing much existed before this one that was published in 1967. I read the book to shreds in my youth but I have no idea who that author really was and if he has written something else. At least some information can be found on the net now, including a couple of possible sources for a copy.

Norsk Data

I have found a scan on the internet of the product sheet for one of the very first software products I ever developed, see ND-895273-01-EN.pdf. You can find more information about the pioneer Norwegian computer manufacturer Norsk Data at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norsk_Data.

Plans for 2012

Long, dark autumn evenings are perfect for contemplating what to do next summer. As Greeks are running their country into inevitable doom by hurting the tourists that feed them (maybe tourists should go into strike next year?), another trip right now seems completely out of the question. Most likely next year will concentrate on Italy and Turkey. After falling in love with the Sorrento Peninsula this year I can see maybe even a 2-3 week trip covering Positano, Sorrento and possibly Capri in the horizon. In Turkey right now Fethiye and Kaş seem interesting. That might also make at least a daytrip to a Greek island possible, Kastellórizo (if it is not closed for business).

Walks around Amalfi

My report can be found at http://islandwalking.com/amalfi.html. I firmly believe this will not be my last visit to neither the Sorrento peninsula as a whole nor the Amalfi coast… 🙂
