More Greek Music
But back to Greek music and I am continuing my Vangelis exploration in semi-chronological order. In the following days this blog will just be a playlist of what Vangelis album I am currently playing. There might even be several posts per day. If I find a particular album interesting enough to play it’s possible you might also like it. Starting with “Albedo 0.39” from 1976:
Walking on Meganisi
As I will be visiting Lefkada this summer a visit to the nearby smallish (!) island of Meganisi is also a must. Short walks on the island are described by Lance Chilton in his booklet Walks in Lefkada and Meganisi. Read more about and see more of the island at the municipality web site at http://www.meganisi.gr/EN/index.html. Refer to that page also for information about transportation (bus schedules) and access (ferry schedules).

Big Dogz Are Gonna Howl
Amazing that my childhood heroes Nazareth are still going strong! Big Dogz will be arriving at Chez Walker any day now.
Vangelis
For most people Vangelis should not need much of an introduction. But surprises can be found. After leaving Aphrodite’s Child, in 1973 Vangelis made what can be considered his first real solo album, “Earth”. It is for the most part very different from his later stuff. Still rooted in prog-rock, but it has examples of the synth style he later became so well known for. Recommended.
Aphrodite’s Child
In music, just about everyone has heard (or at least heard about) the contemporary Greek artists Vangelis and Demis Roussos. Fewer probably know that both of them originate in the fairly awesome Greek prog-rock band Aphrodite’s Child. E.g have a listen to their powerful swan song in 666 from 1971:
Greek Music
I cannot claim any greater knowledge of Greek music in general, but I know what I like. My absolute favorite is the composer/pianist Eleni Karaindrou. She has e.g written music to many of the masterful movies by Greek director Theo Angelopolous.

This island for me was the birthplace of islandwalking, I sort of feel that above all other islands this is “my” island.
