If you are interested in “classic” heavy rock you can have a look at something I wrote most of in 1998, and maybe today I would be heavily (oh yeah!) disagreeing with myself, but I am not going to change one single point! This to honor the spirit of the moment, and to keep the integrity and consistency of the original review, written after a twenty year long pause from Black Sabbath listening…
Other Grand Masters (Of the Universe…)
Hackett The Great
This blog was never meant to be about music (well, it was not meant to be about a lot of things…), but I just cannot resist recommending this new album from a master.
Wrong Way Up
View from Mark Webber’s F1 car at the European Grand Prix in Valencia today. Not the sort of view you would like from your car…
Keeping your Old Mac happy
A couple of tips especially for older Macs. I have an old iBook G4 (MacOS X 10.4) that happily runs Opera 10.54 (it is even running Unite, and you can e.g look at my sharing of photos from Greece, see http://webserver.mrwalker.operaunite.com/photo_sharing/content/, i.e at least when the machine is actually ON…) and I can watch (sluggish) Flash and watch streaming on Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK), if I want. Which I don’t. But it works. If you want.
If you have Flash 10.0 working DO NOT “upgrade” to 10.1. This is even more sluggish and might break other software.
If you have Flip4Mac 2.2 working DO NOT “upgrade” to 2.3. It brings DRM and might even sneak install Silverlight. AND could break your favorite browser.
Hopefully these “technologies” will become obsolete and die in some very near future. Steve Jobs might be right after all…
If you own an old PPC machine I would also stay with Opera 10.54. I highly doubt these machines will run any subsequent Opera release on a satisfactory level.
“My” Little Camelot
If you have read these pages over the years you will have noticed that there are little actual tourist information to be found here. Usually I only give some transportation timetables and list good eateries I have discovered. Once in a while I will also feel the need to warn against certain restaurants, but they will really have to “work hard” to accomplish that… Even more rarely, if I have stayed at some exceptionally nice place or hotel, I will give it my personal recommendation. Only a couple of times have I ever published pictures and other information about a hotel. This is about one of those. I “stumbled” on this little gem on the internet some time in 2001-2002. Carefully excavated (really!) from ancient castle walls in Rhodes Town. I think 99.9% (or so…) of people staying here will remain a friend for life. You can also refer to TripAdvisor on this one. This is also one of the smallest hotels in the world, at my first stay in 2002 they only had 3 rooms. A very special place, and if you ever stay here, you will also be a very special guest.
Find Camelot Hotel at Themistokleous 18, Rhodes Old Town.
Busy Day on Paros
As the height of tourist season is nearing by, ferries are almost queuing up in the busy port of Parikia. Hordes of people flock in the harbour area. I wonder how many of these people got to do any useful walking on the island. Paros might not be your typical walking island, but there are very nice walks that can be done even here. For some tips see my Paros page.
Kefalonian Wine
Even if this indirectly has been linked to before, I would again like to point out the superb quality wine found on the recently visited Greek island of Kefalonia. Read more about their wine and their wine history at the official web site of the ROBOLA WINE COOERATIVE.
Walking in Oslo
Summer in Oslo and possible to do some pleasant walking. This concludes Kjentmannsmerket 2008-2010 with a Silver Mark. For more information about “Kjentmannsmerket”, see Bernhard Herres hjemmeside for Kjentmannsmerket (only some information in English).
Pictures from my walks will be upoaded to http://www.islandwalking.com/piwigo/index.php?/category/82.
More information about my walks around Oslo (in Norwegian only) can be found at http://islandwalking.com/marka.html.
Walking on Kefalonia
The walking I did on Kefalonia was more like strolls, for the most part. Which suits the “Walk & Eat” theme. Or maybe I should call it “Eat & Walk” in my case? Well, let us not forget Drink either. What about “Drink & Eat & (Possibly) Walk”? See http://www.islandwalking.com/kefalonia.html.
New Ferry Page
For the ferry lover I have created yet another small page about some specific ferries. This time the Lixoúri ferries. Unfortunately I have little information about these boats yet. Just a picture of the ferry I used, the c/f VASOS K. Other ferries were c/f AGIOS GERASIMOS and c/f AINOS.
