Walks in Parga

Lance Chilton is one of my favorite guide book authors. By some rather dumb comments on Amazon it seems he is also the most underrated. His simple booklets may not look so impressive to everyone, but they are great for people that just care about the walking. General tourist guides can be bought elsewhere…

Next year I plan to check out Parga, and this book seems like the perfect companion:

Which Restaurant Kos

If you are interested in Greek wine (and fine dining) Kos Town must have one the best restaurants in entire Greece. At Petrino they have a big catalogue consisting entirely of Greek wine. And what superb wines too. The quality of the food and service is also top notch.

Which Restaurant Rhodes

Those that want more restaurant tips can visit my island pages, but there are a couple of first class restaurants that maybe the average tourist does not dare to venture into that deserves some mention. Be warned that the price is in concordance with the quality.

First out is Rhodes Old Town, where you will find what is at least in some ways probably the world´s best fish restaurant, the famous Alexis’ Fish Tavera:

Which Hotel Mykonos

One last entry for exceptional town hotels from the Greek islands:

While we are at it, in Mykonos Town do not miss the excellent Restaurant La Casa (Greek/Italian kitchen)!

Walk!

Several months ago I presented the good walking guides you could find covering my favorite country (Greece). All the book series mentioned also cover other islands and/or interesting walking destinations elsewhere. But there is one series of books that (quite undeservedly really!) has not been mentioned yet (as they do not cover Greece). And that is the “Walk!” series by “Discovery Walking Guides”. I have good experiences  with these (e.g their Mallorca North & Mountains guide is one of the best guide books I have ever used) and other current and previous offerings from Discovery, so I can only warmly recommend them:

BTW, the Book Shop has now been totally updated wrt the current Discovery guides and maps available.

Which Hotel Kos

I think almost no Greek island offers as many decently priced hotels as Kos, so you will never run out of options, even in high summer. A couple I have used:

  • In Kéfalos/Kámari: Hotel Hermes
  • In Kos town: Family-run Hotel Elena is a bargain

Which Hotel Corfu

In Corfu Town I like to stay at the old harbour. A peaceful, yet central location, and you can possibly get a room with a decent view. More than one good option here, I can recommend both of these:

  • The C-class Hotel Constantinopoulis
  • The even better B-class Hotel Astron

Which Hotel Samos

Samos town has the excellent Hotel Samos:

But there are good budget options too. I can warmly recommend also the immaculate Pension Trova (26. Kalomiris St.).
